African fintech company Yellow Card has secured $40 million in a strategic funding round to accelerate its global expansion and strengthen its cross-border payment infrastructure
The investment, backed by SC Ventures by Standard Chartered, Sony Innovation Fund, Polychain Capital, Blockchain Capital and other strategic investors, brings Yellow Card’s total funding to more than $120 million
The company said the fresh capital will support the expansion of its Global USD Accounts, an end-to-end dollar account solution that allows businesses to hold U.S. dollars, manage treasury operations, swap stablecoins, and send or receive payments through local payment rails across more than 50 countries
Chief Executive Officer of SC Ventures, Alex Manson, said the investment reflects confidence in Yellow Card’s role in driving stablecoin adoption through practical financial infrastructure
“Stablecoins are here to stay, but their adoption will depend on robust infrastructure and clear real-world utility. Yellow Card is building those rails for businesses across Africa, enabling them to access and move value efficiently across markets,” Manson said
The funding also marks Sony Innovation Fund’s entry into supporting Yellow Card’s expansion, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region
Managing Director of Sony Ventures-US, Austin Noronha, said the company’s combination of application programming interfaces (APIs), local fiat payment rails, institutional-grade security and regulatory compliance gives it the potential to connect traditional finance with emerging digital payment systems
Yellow Card Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder, Chris Maurice, described the funding as a validation of the company’s long-term vision to transform global money movement
“This investment is a vote of confidence in what we’ve spent years building: the infrastructure that lets global businesses move money without traditional correspondent banking,” Maurice said
He added that the company’s next phase will focus on connecting financial institutions to stablecoin networks and expanding access to dollar-based financial services for businesses underserved by traditional payment systems
Yellow Card said its Global USD Accounts are already being used by multinational companies, including Visa and Western Union, to access dollar accounts, manage foreign exchange exposure and process local currency payments through domestic banking networks
The fintech disclosed that it has facilitated more than $10 billion in transactions, supports over 50 currencies and holds licences, authorisations and registrations across 22 jurisdictions in North America, Europe and Africa
The company also maintains partnerships with global payment firms such as Visa, Mastercard, PayPal and Coinbase as it expands its stablecoin infrastructure across Africa, Latin America, Asia-Pacific and other emerging markets
