Under the Operator-Sponsored Model, eligible users will receive up to 100MB of free data daily to access designated educational platforms. This translates to about 700MB weekly, 3GB monthly and up to 36.5GB annually for each learner

Speaking at the launch, NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, said the initiative was part of broader government efforts to equip Nigerians with the digital skills and knowledge needed to support economic development

Maida linked the programme to President Bola Tinubu’s ambition of building a $1 trillion economy, noting that achieving the target would depend significantly on developing Nigeria’s human capital

According to available estimates, the 100MB daily allowance could support several hours of learning depending on the type of activity. Text-based reittle data, while audio lessons and other data-intensive activities use more

The NCC said the initiative could also help reduce disparities in access to educational re materials regardless of their location

Industry stakeholders estimate that providing the free data to five million students could cost telecommunications operators about N15 billion monthly and N180 billion annually, highlighting the scale of the private-sector investment involved
