The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has launched a Student Share Grant Initiative to help young Nigerians begin their investment journey early, deepen financial literacy and develop an understanding of long-term asset ownership
The initiative is open to students aged 18 years and above in recognised public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria. It is designed to give young people practical exposure to saving, responsible investing and participation in the capital market through the ongoing Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE (DPRP)
Under the programme, an eligible student who completes the required verification process and applies for a minimum of 10 DPRP shares through the designated participation channel will qualify for ADF to fund an application for an additional 10 shares in the student’s name at no extra cost
The Foundation said the initiative is intended to bridge the gap between financial education and practical investment experience by allowing students to participate in an actual capital-market transaction and understand processes including verification, subscription, allotment and ownership
Chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, said supporting young Nigerians should extend beyond access to education to equipping them with knowledge and opportunities to participate in economic growth and wealth creation
He said the initiative would help students understand the value of saving, responsible investing and long-term ownership while encouraging them to develop an investment mindset early
According to Dangote, early exposure to investment and ownership can influence how young people make financial decisions in the future and encourage greater participation in the formal economy
The Chief Executive Officer of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Mrs Zouera Youssoufou, said the initiative was created to make financial literacy more practical for young people
She said students would be able to experience the formal investment process while learning how investment applications work and the importance of responsible participation in the capital market
Youssoufou added that the Foundation’s objective goes beyond participation in the current DPRP IPO, as it hopes to encourage a lifelong interest in financial literacy, investing and asset ownership among young Nigerians
The Foundation said students must participate in their own names and for their own benefit. The initiative applies specifically to the DPRP IPO and cannot be used to acquire shares in another Dangote company or another company
ADF also clarified that its share grant is separate from the administration of the DPRP IPO and that funding an additional application does not guarantee that the shares will ultimately be allotted. Both the student’s application and the Foundation-funded application remain subject to the applicable IPO terms and allotment procedures
The Foundation further stressed that participation is voluntary and that the initiative should not be regarded as investment advice or a recommendation to acquire DPRP shares
The launch comes amid increased retail participation in the Dangote Refinery IPO, which is aimed at raising capital to support the refinery’s planned expansion. Reuters reported that the offering has attracted strong investor demand, with the IPO scheduled to close on October 13, 2026
For participating students, the initiative provides an opportunity to gain practical exposure to the capital market while building knowledge that could support future financial planning, investment decisions and asset ownership
ADF said the broader objective is to encourage young Nigerians to move beyond simply understanding financial concepts to developing responsible habits around saving, investing and long-term wealth creation
