Applications are now open for the CircularEconomy4Ghana Innovation Challenge 2026, a program designed to support early-stage agritech startups developing innovative solutions that promote circular economy practices, improve food security, and strengthen the resilience of Ghana’s agricultural sector
The initiative is led by the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT through the Accelerate for Impact Platform (A4IP) in <a href="https://usglobalxpress.com/afdb-and-germany-deepen-partnership-on-africas-development-business/” title=”AfDB and Germany Deepen Partnership on Africa's Development | Business”>partnership with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO/ITPO), and E4Impact, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy
The programme seeks startups building practical, scalable technologies that reduce agricultural waste, improve reural value chain while delivering measurable benefits to smallholder farmers
Eligibility Criteria
The challenge is open to early-stage agritech startups that:
- Have a working Minimum Viable Product (MVP), preferably already tested with end users.
- Are actively raising pre-seed or seed-stage funding.
- Address real agricultural challenges with market-driven solutions.
- Align with at least one of the programme’s priority themes.
- Demonstrate the potential to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and other agricultural value chain actors.
Priority Innovation Areas
Applicants should develop solutions in one or more of the following areas:
- Innovative financing and financial inclusion for circular agribusinesses
- Digital advisory services and knowledge-sharing systems for circular agriculture
- Agricultural waste segregation, collection, recycling, and valorisation
- Nutrient recovery and circular soil fertility solutions
- Traceability, data management, and supply chain efficiency
- Inclusive circular business models that create opportunities for women and youth
Programme Benefits
Selected startups will receive:
- A fully funded four-day immersive bootcamp in Accra, Ghana
- A three-month sponsored accelerator programme combining entrepreneurial training, technical support, and business development
- Mentorship from CGIAR scientists, UNIDO experts, and industry professionals
- Strategic connections with agribusinesses, ecosystem partners, and innovation stakeholders
- Investor readiness support and opportunities to engage potential investors and commercial partners
- Valuable insights into Ghana’s agricultural ecosystem and market opportunities
The programme is designed to help founders refine their business models, strengthen their innovations, expand market opportunities, and accelerate the growth of sustainable agritech solutions that advance the circular economy
